According to researches of GKM Lean Management Institute on development trend of more than 1,000 companies recently, digital transformation with aspiration for sustainable development is a trend that Vietnamese companies are heading to. Many companies have been starting to launch enterprise-wide or pilot digital transformation projects through applying tools, management software programs, technical technologies (ex. automation, electronic mechanics, etc.), which covers hardware elements innovation. This is among one of companies’ investment determination with the desire to accomplish miraculous development, make a short cut to lead the trend. However, according to our survey results, more than 300 surveyed companies’ leaders answered that although they had innovated a lot of hardware, machinery and equipment, they could not succeed in maintaining and deploying potentials of these tool systems. And there have been also many companies that get confused and lost their direction when implanting too many software programs, IT apps at the same time in the company management system.
According to Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dang Minh – Chairman of GKM Lean Management Institute, who has had many years of consulting and training on business restructuration and transformation, companies have not succeeded in digital transformation because they have not restructured their management system into a neat and quintenessential one for a sustainable development foundation. Companies are making much effort to digitalize many methods and processes that create neither practical value nor added value for them. Moreover, companies invest immense resources to maintain the system. Process digitization (the first step of digital transformation) without non-lean management system creates fatigue and is a burden for companies in transformation process.
Finding answers for the questions “How to implement digital transformation successfully in Vietnam”, “What foundation is necessary for digital transformation?”, “What should be the operating system (or gene system) for digital transformation?”, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dang Minh said that we must study carefully on the world’s implementation as well as characteristics of Vietnamese society, people and companies. According to him, Vietnamese companies need a transformation model appropriate for their characteristics. They cannot apply mechanically any transformation model in the world.
Since 2016, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dang Minh has create Made in Vietnam Lean Digital Transformation based on the Lean Gene system of Made in Vietnam Lean Management school, which has also been verified and registered for intellectual property in Vietnam and in the world.

Participating in the training and consulting programs on Made in Vietnam lean digital transformation of GKM Lean Management Institute, companies are persuaded and conscious of perquisite conditions for the successful digital transformation, that are: i) improving management competence, integrating the management gene system thoroughly from CEO, EMO and FMO; ii) selecting and applying digital transformation technology and tools appropriate with demand and condition of individual company.
